In view of five males and three females in four separate vehicles, a driver, speeding down a winding downhill section of a California desert highway, careens off the road, crashes and is thrown from his vehicle. The five male witnesses rush off to the injured driver, their attention shifting away from his well-being when, just before passing, he gasps out that he has buried $350,000 in Santa Rosita State Park underneath a big W. When questioned by the attending police and asked directly if the victim said anything to them before he died, they all lie. In the eight ultimately discussing the issue among themselves and unable to come up with a way to divide the money that is acceptable to all if they work together to try to find it--by the five who attended, by all eight, by vehicle, by family unit, or a combination of any or all of the above--it becomes every person for him/herself as they all rush to Santa Rosita State Park generally by vehicle unit to locate the big W and the money. That race isn't as easy as any of the eight would like as it becomes a proverbial planes, trains, and automobiles trek as they all get into one misadventure after another. In the process, they sometimes need to confide in others in order for assistance, thus spreading the money beyond more than just the eight of them. What they don't know is that the victim is Smiler Grogan, who stole the money 15 years ago. What they also don't know is that the Santa Rosita police, led by Captain Culpeper, had been following Grogan in order to discover where he hid the money. Culpeper, honest to a fault, knows that the eight were told where the money is, so all they need to do is clandestinely follow the eight to the money; discovering it would be the feather in his cap at the end of an illustrious career. But feeling unappreciated as viewed by the measly pension he will receive following retirement, Culpeper could have other thoughts about the best way to end his career

Twenty-three year old New Yorker Marty Mauser puts one hundred and ten percent into everything he does; unfortunately for the world it is all in pursuit of his own self-absorbed wants as he takes advantage of everyone in his orbit. One of those is his married childhood friend Rachel, with whom he has been having an affair, the consequences of which he doesn't consider. He could be the best table tennis player in the world, but in receiving no official support has made no money in the activity. He wants to show the world that he is the best, and in turn make money toward supporting his overbearing mother, who is currently supported by Marty's uncle, in whose shoe store he works. He also thinks an American being at the top would be good for the sport's profile. Now he not only has to make it to the world championships in Japan, which he cannot afford to attend, but win. Among those he hopes will be able to help him are retired movie star Kay Stone and her powerful businessman husband Milton Rockwell. But for every step forward Marty takes in his pursuit to make it to the championships, he always seems to take two steps in a wrong direction.

Part history lesson followed by re-enactments with actors, this film depicts the history of witchcraft from its earliest days through to the present day (in this case,1922 or thereabouts). The result is a documentary-like film that must be among the first to use re-enactments as a visual and narrative tool. From pagan worship to satanic rites to hysteria, the film takes you on a journey through the ages with highly effective visual sequences.

Reviewers say 'The Man Who Laughs' stands as a triumph of silent cinema, led by Conrad Veidt's compelling performance despite acting through a fixed smile. The touching romance between the disfigured protagonist and blind Dea avoids sentimentality, while Olga Baclanova's seductive Duchess adds dramatic tension. Reviewers praise the extravagant production design, atmospheric German Expressionist cinematography, and moody tone. The film's emotional depth and cultural legacy, particularly its influence on Batman's Joker, earn enthusiastic recommendations as an engaging, worthwhile experience.

Reviewers say 'Nosferatu' remains a groundbreaking horror masterpiece that established the genre and continues to frighten audiences a century later. Max Schreck's iconic portrayal of Count Orlok and the film's eerie Gothic atmosphere receive universal acclaim for their lasting power. However, viewers are divided on engagement, with some finding it captivating while others struggle with its silent format and pacing. The adaptation's deviations from Dracula and occasionally crude cinematography also draw mixed reactions.
